Baking soda is a wonderful cleaning product. It can be used for so much more than baking or deodorizing your refrigerator. Here are my favorite top 15 uses.
Remove Red Sauce Stains from Plastic
This is my all time favorite! Make a paste with baking soda and water. Rub it on the stain and let sit for a few minutes. May take a little effort with tough stains but it will work!
Make a Fruit and Vegetable Cleaner
Add two or three tablespoons of baking soda to your sink of cool water. Soak your fruits and vegetables for 15-20 minutes. This will remove dirt, pesticides and other residues. For extra piece of mind, you can wash your fruits and vegetables with a brush, and rinse thoroughly.
Clean Patio Furniture
Mix a quart of warm water with ¼ cup baking soda. Use a sponge, brush or washcloth to wash furniture with the mixture and then rinse with the water hose.
Remove Driveway & Garage Stains
Cover the area with baking soda and then use a wet brush to scrub the area, then rinse. The baking soda will lift the grease and oil out so you can rinse it away.
Laundry Detergent Booster
Add half a cup of baking soda to your washing machine to help give your laundry detergent a boost. It will leave your clothes cleaner and smelling fresher. Safe for front load washers!
Clean and Deodorize Your Mattress
Clean and deodorize your mattress by completely covering your mattress with a 5oz box of baking soda. Then use a soft brush to rub it into the fabric. I do this in the morning and allow it to sit for the entire day and then vacuum it up.
Eliminate Trashcan Odors
Every time I empty the trash I sprinkle some baking soda in the bottom of the container. This helps to fight odors! Our trash is right inside the house near our garage door. Guest who come in thru the garage, often comment on how nice our house smells.
At night I sprinkle baking soda on the carpet. I vacuum it up in the morning. It not only deodorizes and freshens, but it fluffs up the carpet and makes it look amazing.
Rid Bad Odors From Your Car
Sprinkle a little on your carpet in your car. Let it sit for an hour and then vacuum. The baking soda will neutralize the odors and eliminate them, leaving your car fresh and clean.
Clean Bugs from Your Car Grill
Make a paste using baking soda and water. Use a soft washcloth to rub the paste on the areas covered with bugs or tar. Let it sit on your car for a few minutes and then wipe the mixture off with a damp cloth and rinse.
When I was pregnant with my son, this is the only thing that would alleviate heartburn. I continue to use it 26 years later. The instructions are on every box of Arm & Hammer baking soda. Simply dissolve 1 teaspoon into 8oz glass of water and drink. (quickly)
Use as a Deodorant
I’ve always heard that you can use it as a deodorant. I have not tried this myself so let me know if you try it. You just pat some on your armpits and rub it in.
Rid Food Odors From The Refrigerator
When I was younger, I thought this is what baking soda was made for. If you want to eliminate food odors in the refrigerator, just open a box of baking soda and sit it inside the back of your refrigerator.
I read years ago that Oprah uses it as toothpaste. To use, dip your toothbrush into the box and brush as you usually would. You do not have to brush with toothpaste afterwards. I have tried this on occasion. Afterwards I rinse with mouthwash for that toothpaste feeling.
Beans. The non-magical fruit
To neutralize the gas that beans can produce, I sprinkle baking soda into the water with my beans as I am soaking them. If you don’t soak your beans, just add a teaspoon into the beans as they cook. Works like a charm.
